Character Creation — Sorcerers

ACID ARROW, BIATCHSORCERER
Race: Elf, Half-Elf, Human
Alignment: Any

Description: Although their similarities with Mages are obvious, Sorcerers gain their power through entirely different channels. Instead of spending years of tutelage in a library, Sorcerers apparently commune with the Weave itself, developing an almost unconscious understanding of its workings. They know nothing of the arcane runes and gestures used by Mages, so they cannot use scrolls to add to their bank of known spells. They can, however, cast directly from scrolls, by "feeling" the portion of the Weave embedded into the scroll. Mages tend to be jealous of Sorcerers' achievement of power through no apparent effort; actually, the concentration required to find the proper "touch" is quite taxing.

STRENGTHS:
»
»

»
»
»
Can cast (on average) at least 1 more spell from each available Spell Level than a pureclassed Mage, per day
Instead of choosing one's spells the night before and memorizing them into specific spellslots, a Sorcerer simply has a set number of "Level X Spells" he can
cast each day—the choice of precisely which spell to cast is made at the moment of casting.
Has access to all the same spells that Mages can learn
Has the same Wizard-specific item usabilities as the Mage
Guaranteed stats of at least 9 Intelligence and 9 Charisma
WEAKNESSES:
»
»
»
»
»
»
Very limited spell selection: May select no more than 5 different spells of each Spell Level to learn
Has the same weak combat stats and slow EXP Level progression as the Mage
Has the same restrictive weapons, armor, and equipment limitations as the Mage
Has the same limited proficiency-point allocation as the Mage
Has the same lack of Thieving skills and Priest-specific abilities as the Mage
Cannot be combined with any other class
FUN RATING: 7.1 / 10

Notes: The "Strengths" and "Weaknesses" listed for each base class are intended both as a general description of the class, and compared to the other classes of the same superclass.

In the table to the right, the columns indicate the the Experience Level of a Sorcerer, the Experience Points required for a Sorcerer to reach that level, and their level-based stats—
The amount of hitpoints they would gain at that level, the THAC0 and Attacks per Round they would have, the number of Proficiency Points they would gain at that level, and their Saving Throws (given in this order: vs. Death, vs. Wands, vs. Polymorph, vs. Breath, and vs. Spell). All stats given are their base values, before any modifiers are applied.

The last 9 columns are a Sorcerer's spell access: Each column represents a Spell Level, and in each entry, the first number is the number of different spells a Sorcerer at that EXP level would know, and the second number is the number of spells that the Sorcerer could cast each day.
