Infinity Engine Modlist Launched! |
|
Almost a year ago, icelus decided to create a comprehensive list of all the mods made for Baldur's Gate 2. As time went by, the list grew and grew, and was eventually complemented by similar lists for Baldur's Gate 1, Icewind Dale, and Icewind Dale 2, as well as lists of all the various modding communities and portrait sites.
To make things more convenient for players everywhere, we at the Pocket Plane Group have setup a centralized database to consolidate all of these various lists. This new setup allows for easier categorization of all the mods, as well as allowing mod authors to submit their own entries.
So, without further ado, we present to you the Pocket Plane Group Infinity Engine Modlist: http://modlist.pocketplane.net |

"Love the Player, Not the Game" |
In the March 2004 issue of Ziff-Davis Gaming Industry News (publication has since shut down), Jason published an article about the role of onling gaming communities in the modern industry, looking at both developer-run sites and large-scale independent sites. Industry figures from outfits such as EA Nation, Stratics, Firaxis, and NCSoft sound off on the true benefits--and risks--of hanging out a gaming community shingle.
The published version differs only slightly from this, the original draft.
The online gaming communities that serve hundreds of thousands of players daily are a natural outgrowth of the speed of communication afforded by the Internet, and the ever-growing desire by publishers to grab and hold customers by any means necessary, whether for franchise repeats or monthly re-ups in a persistent world. |

...hey, there are mods for Tutu, too! |
BG1Tutu, the Baldur's Gate 1 conversion for the Baldur's Gate 2 engine, quickly became one of the most popular Infinity Engine mods of all time, appealing to casual players who simply wanted a new look at an old classic as well as to diehard BG mod players.
It has also proven to be a ripe platform to revive interest in BG1 modding. A number of new mods are either developed expressly for Tutu, or are compatible with the conversion. Keep an eye on PPG's new BG1Tutu Enhancements page at http://www.pocketplane.net/tutumods to further brighten your BG1 experience.
Tutu players should especially be aware of Indira Version 3. Both version 1 and 2 had bugs that prevented installation on many systems. |

The Quest Pack has been released, bringing you...
- Exciting new adventures!
- New and extensive dialogue, with voicing!
- Add new dimensions to popular existing quests!
- Unique and dangerous opponents!
- Treachery and intrigue!
Quest Pack v1 contains a number of components designed to add additional high-quality adventures throughout Baldur's Gate II: Shadows of Amn. It should work correctly with or without the Throne of Bhaal expansion. WeiDU is used to handle installation and uninstallation.
Some components may expand on existing quests, while others may be completely new. All are independant, can be installed separately and do not rely on one another technically or in terms of story.
The mod currently consists of FIVE components, as below. Additional quests and encounters will be added in subsequent releases.

Banter Packs V5 Released! |
Thanks to Caswallon, Dragonheart and Fedegar (German) and Matrim Cauthon (French), Banter Packs are now fully translated into those languages. This is a translation release only, no new content has been added since V4. And, my personal apologies to the German translators for taking so long for this release.

'Fewer Smackdowns, More Cuddling' |
In the February 2004 issue of Gaming Industry News (publication has since shut down, but site is still active), Jason published an article about the tentative growth of romance content in gaming, and asked several industry figures, including Bioware's David Gaider and Troika's Tim Cain, why there isn't more of it.
The published version differs only slightly from this, the original draft.
Entertainment media tells love stories every day, in countless novels, poems, songs, plays, musicals, television shows, and films. What's the gaming industry's contribution? There's a new Leisure Suit Larry sequel coming soon.
A slight exaggeration, perhaps, as the RPG genre in particular has been tentatively weaving romantic involvement into games for years... More... |
