Ding0 Experience Fixer Released!
ImageDing0 Experience Fixer, aka "DEF JAM", has been released!

This mod allows you to reduce the XP rewards throughout BG2. If you're ever thought that tens of thousands of XP for a simple Fed-Ex quest was too much, you can now reduce the rewards to anything from 10% to 75% of their original values.

DEF JAM is available from the House of Sim.

Virtue v16 Materializes At Last!
Image After an unnecessary delay, v16 of the Virtue mod is finally here, resolving a number of issues. I have personally verified that this version installs correctly over both Oversight and Refinements.

Assuming no major bugs arise, future Virtue versions will likely add Tutu compatibility and an improved commoner AI system.

As always, the latest version can be found at http://www.pocketplane.net/virtue/.

Bruceday Tally: Free... uh, Three Bruces!
ImageThe Bruceday One-Day NPC Festival has so far returned three unique perspectives on the Cockney Barfighter: one by Nethrin, one by jcompton, and a new entry by Bons.

All Bruces are linked on the One-Day NPC site.

Indira for Tutu is minty fresh and new!

ImageThanks to help from reporters of bugs, translators, and... well, just those two--version 5 of the Indira NPC for Tutu has arrived.  The latest version includes a french translation, thanks to Elgaern and Egrevyn from the d'Oghmatiques, and doesn't include a few bugs.

Check out the forum, the readme, or download it straight away.

Interview With Cailean's Creators
CaileanKismet and St. Josephine, authors of the upcoming Cailean NPC mod, have submitted graciously agreed to an interview by an interested bystander. Read all about it here!
PPG: Who is Cailean, and how does he fit into the Baldur's Gate 2 story?

St. Josephine: We're trying to create an engaging NPC who isn't as dry as toast. With insane stats. And extra-planar blood.
Kismet: That sums up our motivation.

PPG: But, ladies, how does one make an NPC not be boring if there's not a single insane statistic or strange, noble birth involved?

Unfinished Business 13 Released!

ImageUnfinished Business has now reached (un)lucky version number thirteen! While there are no new major components included with this release, there are quite a few new things that have been found and suggested by various people. Thanks, everyone, for helping to keep production on UB going.

Also, as of this release, icelus will step down as team leader for the project. He's not going anywhere, don't worry, but he will be passing the reins over to Andyr. Let's all give a hearty welcome to our favorite stick-figure!

Shake Your Mod Thing...
Redeem me, baby. Mwah! In the spirit of unforgettable dance mixes such as "Alora Annoys James Brown", club scene starlet B-Bad Bons has crafted the ultimate BG2 dance tune: Irenicus (Redeem This Mix)

Grab it from the PPG Soundsets and Diversions page, http://www.pocketplane.net/audio

Dungeon-Be-Gone MacOS X Refresh
Image Loriel has refreshed the Mac version of Dungeon-Be-Gone 1.4 to install properly on machines with Throne of Bhaal installed. Check out DBG at http://www.pocketplane.net/dbg, and thanks, Loriel!

Updated again 8-29-04 to correct another script mistake.

Infinity Engine Modlist Launched!

Almost a year ago, icelus decided to create a comprehensive list of all the mods made for Baldur's Gate 2. As time went by, the list grew and grew, and was eventually complemented by similar lists for Baldur's Gate 1, Icewind Dale, and Icewind Dale 2, as well as lists of all the various modding communities and portrait sites.

To make things more convenient for players everywhere, we at the Pocket Plane Group have setup a centralized database to consolidate all of these various lists. This new setup allows for easier categorization of all the mods, as well as allowing mod authors to submit their own entries.

So, without further ado, we present to you the Pocket Plane Group Infinity Engine Modlist: http://modlist.pocketplane.net

"Love the Player, Not the Game"
Image In the March 2004 issue of Ziff-Davis Gaming Industry News (publication has since shut down), Jason published an article about the role of onling gaming communities in the modern industry, looking at both developer-run sites and large-scale independent sites. Industry figures from outfits such as EA Nation, Stratics, Firaxis, and NCSoft sound off on the true benefits--and risks--of hanging out a gaming community shingle.
The published version differs only slightly from this, the original draft.

The online gaming communities that serve hundreds of thousands of players daily are a natural outgrowth of the speed of communication afforded by the Internet, and the ever-growing desire by publishers to grab and hold customers by any means necessary, whether for franchise repeats or monthly re-ups in a persistent world.

...hey, there are mods for Tutu, too!
Image BG1Tutu, the Baldur's Gate 1 conversion for the Baldur's Gate 2 engine, quickly became one of the most popular Infinity Engine mods of all time, appealing to casual players who simply wanted a new look at an old classic as well as to diehard BG mod players.

It has also proven to be a ripe platform to revive interest in BG1 modding. A number of new mods are either developed expressly for Tutu, or are compatible with the conversion. Keep an eye on PPG's new BG1Tutu Enhancements page at http://www.pocketplane.net/tutumods to further brighten your BG1 experience.

Tutu players should especially be aware of Indira Version 3. Both version 1 and 2 had bugs that prevented installation on many systems.
